Exercise by the seat of your pants.

A healthy idea to think about:

If you’re parked in a chair it doesn’t mean you can’t burn calories. Rev your engine by lifting hand weights, stretching or pedaling a stationary bike. So forget the remote, be adventurous and get off the couch to change the channel yourself.

Consult with your physician before beginning any exercise regimen.

I agree! Any small thing you can do to burn a few more calories will help. Do ankle circles, fold clothes etc. They all add up!

The stationary bike is a good idea. Where would you get one for the office?

What a good idea!  Some magazine from a long time ago told women to do butt scrunches while driving (I think they were speaking to soccer moms).  Well, aside from this looking funny, were anyone to catch you doing it - it's also dangerous because its distracting.

That said - I agree we should look for ways to cut down on our sedentary life.  The remote is a great idea.  Another idea - keep your kitchen appiances in the basement - use the stairs when you need to use the food processor and put it away again after dinner.

I find that when you are very busy it is easier to do 15 minutes two to three times a day of exercise than trying to get your whole routine in at one time. Spreading it out throughout the day also helps me maintain my energy level. Awesome, try it! AA033- T Wigley

You can do a bunch of little things.  One of the many little things my mom did was to weight lift the gallon milk container at the grocery store.  It looked funny and I got embarrassed when I was a teenager, but she is now 60 and looks 45.  She is fit, healthy and young.  She's my health role model.

While there's nothing inherently wrong with "getting up to change channels", the main issue lies one layer deeper and that is that most of us (myself included) spend all day sitting at a desk and then spending a good portion of the evening "decompressing" on the couch in front of the tube.  I guess if you have to watch tv, it's better to do it while walking/running on a treadmill or riding a bike.  I honestly don't enjoy that as a means to calm down.  I prefer a designated time to exercise (I have begun walking for 30 mins after dinner) and a separate "no activity" time right before bed to calm my nerves.
Not sure if others feel the same way...

I always though I had a weird habit to walk around the apartement while on the phone. Turns out it is not that bad after all. It can add easily to 2000 steps a day (I checked with step meter).
Obviosluly before practising this kanna exerise, you might wanna invest in free evening minutes cell phone plan or prep your family members that you are not going crazy walking in circles...
