    Dancercize

Woohoo! I am so excited about this new class I have joined.  I live in a VERY small town...so the fact that I found this here is exciting in and of itself!  Anyway...I went last night for the first time. It's about 90% dance and 10% aerobics.  It's a lot of hip-hop and salsa and So Much Fun!  I just wanted to encourage those of you who are getting tired of your regular old gym workouts to think about joining some kind of dance class.  It is great exercise but even better...it's a BLAST and you can pick up some new skills in the process!!

That sounds like lots of fun.  I love to dance.  I am back bellydancing and I am so glad.  There is nothing like dance to chase the blues away.

Is the class taught through a Dance Studio

    or through something else?

    Re: Dancercize

Can you tell me how much the classes or the membership is?  How long are the classes?  I'm curious to know what the structure is like - is it a membership like a gym or is it a fee for each class?  How big are the classes...less than 20 people typically?  I guess you don't need any equipment or special supplies...you just go in some comfortable workout clothing, towel and water for the workout.  I'm trying to find something that is a good fit and with the craze of Dancing with the Stars.....this might be a good fit.

Mrs. Jones, that's great!  I have posted before that I take adult ballet classes.  I don't go to a gym anymore.  I try to go at least 3x a week.  However, I know I should complement the ballet classes with some cardio activities.  I'm currently looking for a hip hop class to go to (also, at least there will be more men in a hip hop class too)  :)

***Please note... this is acually by Mrs. Jones.....I am accidently signed in as my hubby!!

The Dancercize class I am taking is at a church gym.  It is $5 per class or $30 per month.  There is no equipment although most of the women do bring a mat and weights (as well as water to drink).  The class I go to has anywhere from 20-30 women in it...ALL shapes and sizes.  It is held twice a week for an hour and 15 minutes.  We do intervals...about 20 minutes dance...5 minutes weights...and so on.  At the end we do some abs on the floor and some stretching.

I have actually come to the conclusion that is really more "fun" than it is "exercize"....for me anyway.  But I am used to HARD core working out...inline step aerobics at a big gym.  When I leave my aerobics classes, I am drenched in sweat and sore.  When I leave this Dancercize class, I am usually just barely break a sweat at all.  In the future, (once my month I already paid for is over) I will probably just focus more on my workouts at the gym and only go to Dancercize for fun occasionaly.  It's just not worth the time it takes away from my family for the amount of actual work out I am getting.  It is from 6-7:15 pm and that is a really hard time for me to be away from my family too.

Anyway, sorry to sound discouraging.  It really is a lot of fun and definitely a good way to make you feel more sexy and sensuous for sure...especially if you are pretty uncoordinated like I am!! he he

Oh BOY!  I have a feeling I am signed in as my husband.  OOPS!! He is REALLY not going to like me having this post under his name...but now that I've typed it...I don't know what I can do.  Sorry Honey!!

So Mr. Jones it sounds like you really enjoy your

    Dancercize Class (Just Kidding.)

The class does sound like fun.

I do water aerobics and it really is a good workout

    and find it show results.

    Re: Dancercize

I love to dance.  Belly dancing is good.  I just ordered a tape from a yoga place called Dance the Chakras.  We'll see what that's like.  I also tried one called Nia--It was fun, but I wasn't and still am not able to take it at the times the studio has them.  One day maybe, as I find dancing a fun way to lose weight.

Does anyone take ballroom/salsa dancing lessons?  Are they worth it?   That looks like another fun way to exercise!

I have seen some bellydancing exercise DVD's

that I think I will try. I would like to get the technique

down before I take a class in public.

    Re: Dancercize

My honest opinion as a five year classroom bellydancer--you need a good teacher to teach you the basics.  Some of the videos are good to supplement and practice too, but you really want to learn the moves right so you don't hurt something.  When I first started I would think I was doing something right and the instructor would point out where I wasn't and then showed me the correct way so I wouldn't hurt myself.  If you take a basic or very beginning class you will learn techinique then you can layer it and dance.  I was just watching Shakira on the Grammy's.  That girl can bellydance!
